EASTON, MARYLAND — "Art for the People: WPA-Era Prints from the Ponemone-Frommeyer Collection" opens Sept. 8 at the Academy Art Museum and runs through Jan. 10. Nearly fifty black-and-white prints from the Baltimore collection of Scott Ponemone and Michael Frommeyer hang in the Spitaleri and Calvert galleries.

Between 1935 and 1943 the Works Progress Administration employed more than eight and a half million people. Through the Federal Art Project it paid artists to work. Collectively, the prints illustrate diverse aspects of American life in the years following the Great Depression.

Many of the prints are promised gifts to the museum, so a show that closes in January leaves a permanent addition to a collection held in this county.

The museum lists Member Mornings on Friday, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m. for a light reception and guided tour of the exhibition.
