CAMBRIDGE, MARYLAND — The 30th annual Choptank Heritage Skipjack Race is Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, at Long Wharf in Cambridge.
Skipjack Nathan’s race notice and Visit Dorchester’s event listing both put a parade of boats out of Cambridge Creek at 10 a.m., with the race starting around 11 a.m. near Long Wharf and finishing there, weather depending. Organizers say the course usually takes one to two hours. Long Wharf Park at the end of High Street is listed as the best public viewing spot; shore activities and food are planned.
The Dorchester Skipjack Committee sponsors the race, with Nathan of Dorchester as host skipjack. The Nathan site calls the Cambridge race the third jewel in a 2026 Triple Crown after Deal Island on Sept. 7 and the Skipjack Heritage Days race off Sandy Point on Sept. 12–13. It says fewer than 20 skipjacks still sail and that each participating boat receives about $1,500 in appearance money for maintenance. Over 30 years, the committee says it has raised and donated more than $200,000 toward preserving the fleet.
Winning captains have their names engraved on the Heritage Cup Trophy, the Nathan site says. Contact listed there is info [at] skipjack-nathan.org and 410-228-7141.
